With this curriculum, your child will be completing a series of 7 books over the course of 40 weeks. As your child progresses through the books, you will notice that the design and layout change, more subjects are introduced, lessons become longer, and more is expected from your child. The intention behind the design is to keep your child engaged, while working through Preschool & Kindergarten. Each day consists of 4 activities that focus on: Bible, Social & Emotional Development, Language & Literacy, Mathematics, Science, and Creative Arts for Books 1-3. Books 4-7 introduce Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Vocabulary, Writing, Social Studies, Social Skills, and Sight Words.

Now in its second edition, Foundations of Education Research defines, discusses, and offers applications for the central components of educational research, providing both novice and experienced researchers with a common ground from which to work. Fully updated throughout, the second edition adds a glossary of terms, additional examples, and includes a discussion of similarities and differences in education research. Eight concise, accessible chapters cover conceptual framework, epistemology, paradigm, theory, theoretical framework, and methodology/method. This unique primer demystifies jargon and makes the theoretical components of research accessible, giving students the tools they need to understand existing education research literature and to produce theoretically-grounded work of their own.

Each chapter begins with perspectives from both novice and experienced researchers, whose guiding questions assist researchers engaging with theory for the first time and those looking to improve their understanding of the fundamentals. Practice exercises, examples, and suggested reading lists at the end of each chapter offer students resources they can apply to their own research and thinking in concrete ways. A perfect accompaniment to standard research courses, this book is designed to help students achieve a deeper understanding of what is expected of them and ideas about how to achieve it.

Always check your library first! You may be able to find some of these for free. You don't have to buy the officially recommended resources all the time. If you're the type of person that prefers to study from a textbook source however, then please see below.

Foundations of Education - The only reason I'm listing the current version of this textbook is that it matches the Cengage site in the Free Resources section above. This is the book that the website is based off of. If you don't mind things being out of order, then you probably want to look at the 2008 version of the book. It's much cheaper, but won't follow the companion website as closely. If that's not a big deal to you, then grab the cheap one.

Teaching To Change The World - One of the suggested materials from the Official Fact Sheet. I can't find a cheaper edition of this book (even the used versions are $50!). I'd definitely check the library or the used textbook shop in your area if you can before buying it online.

As I said earlier.. The Foundations of Education DSST is an annoying exam to prepare a study guide for. Considering we are talking about education here, you'd think it would be easier to find resources on this exam.

The second is the Cengage website in the Free Resources. That online book review covers almost everything I've seen on the Official Fact Sheet for the Foundations of Education DSST. It's free! Use it!

Many know Saylor Academy for these books, but our main efforts go into creating open online courses. We encourage educators to use our courses, in whole or in part, in their own classrooms. Visit our course site to find more textbooks and curated open educational resources (OER).
